Research

My research focuses on human learning and memory, both from a cognitive and a developmental perspective. In my current projects, I am investigating

(i) the development of inhibitory control processes in episodic memory (from childhood to old age)

(ii) the ontogeny of adaptive memory

(iii) test-enhanced learning in school children

Interference and interference management in children's episodic memory

with Karl-Heinz Bäuml

Recall of recently encoded episodes can be impaired through previous encoding of related episodes. In adults, a number of both intentional and unintentional mechanisms work to keep the amount of this so-called proactive interference low. We examine in a series of experiments the extent to which preschoolers, first graders, and fourth graders show proactive interference and efficient interference management.
